Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Vert, issuant from sinister fess a dexter spiked gauntlet Or grasping a flash bendwise Gules that part over the first fimbriated of the second.  Attached below the shield a Gold scroll inscribed "MAILED THUNDER" in Black letters.

Symbolism
The gauntlet is yellow for Armor and green - the color associated with Armor - is used for the background.  The spiked gauntlet connotes the protective strength of the tank armor; the red flash symbolizes the effective striking power of the tank guns.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 246th Tank Battalion on 4 June 1952.  It was amended to add the motto on 19 December 1956.  The insignia was redesignated for the 246th Armor Regiment on 2 September 1960.
